Black tourmaline, also called schorl, formations usually occurs in pegmatites deep within the earth. Pegmatites form when magma slowly cools, allowing water to sneak out of the magma and crystallize. These types of crystals are usually parallel and elongated. Unlike other tourmaline species, schorl can grow to be several feet long. These stones are not polished to give an amazing texture to your jewelry.
